My overall experience with PLMI
I truly enjoyed everything about my first week of PLMI, except from being away from my family. I met some amazing people and got some amazing ideas from them. Heather and Laura made the non-stop learning bearable and not quite so overwhelming. I look forward to using the things we learned in everyday situations.

Day 4
My group's teaching topic was on control. I learned that it's alright to control people and things as long as we are not being controlling. I also learned that when organizing you need the right ingredients to get the job done properly.

Today's speaker
Today’s speaker was amazing! I was surprised to learn that
instead of helping people by doing things for them I have been making them fell
worse. And although it will be hard I will no longer run to the rescue and save
someone, but instead I will help them to find ways to solve their own problems
and guide them in their choices. I also
learned that by not taking care of my needs first I will eventually begin to
resent my job.
A little about Angela
Angela was married for
20 years and 11 months and has two boys that are 18 and 17. She also has two
cats and one dog. She has worked in a library for six years. Her dream job is
to be a professional philanthropist, but if she didn’t have to work she would spend
all of her time working in her flower garden and organizing her house. When she
was a little girl growing up on a farm she wanted to be a forensic person.
Although
Angela wouldn’t mind living off the grid, she thinks telephones are the
greatest invention because it connects people. If she had to live in the sea
she would be a seahorse. If she had to change her name it would be to Jenna,
although people often confuse her with Susan from the television show Designing
Women. The weirdest food she has ever eaten is alligator, but the thought of
eating snake scares her. Angela thinks the best way to cook a raccoon would be
to roast it over n open fire, but she would settle for a turkey sandwich if she
had to.
The
farthest Angela has ever traveled is Louisiana. If she could go anywhere, with
anyone, it would be to Alaska with her husband. She looks forward to witnessing
the birth of her first grandchild, but if giving one wish it would be to have
her husband alive and healthy.

I am statement
I am the director of the Baxter Branch Library. I am a library advocate and community leader. I believe that everyone deserves respect and has the right to knowledge and I will do my best to see they get it. I will find ways to be out in the community more, so that I can tell others about the library. I will also make sure that I listen to what people want in a library and do my best to make it happen.

Today was the first day of PLMI. The speakers today were informative and well spoken. I enjoyed learning the history of the regional library, as well as some of the history of the libraries of my fellow librarians here with me. I agree with Don Reynolds about how we should treat our "customers". Everyone deserves respect and kindness.
